Newsletter - A Moment for Spring

This is the moment of spring and blossoms. It's fleeting, so don't miss it. We're almost at full moon, in my month of "Florilis" and it's lining up perfectly (https://thecraftofliving.com/moon-calendar/). So we're halfway through the month of Florilis, meaning peak time to appreciate the blossoms this week.

I've carried on with my crochet animals and have completed a hen and a frog to add to the collection. I'd bought one ball of each colour and am trying to use them all up evenly, so am starting to get a bit creative with the colour choices... After I've finished the yarn, I'll go back to knitting and hopefully complete the previous jumper if I manage to buy some extra yarn for it.

I'm growing some seeds indoors to plant out into the garden and field in a month or so. I started a bit late, so they're all still tiny seedlings. Hoping to grow asparagus, artichokes, squash, courgettes, and leeks in the field.

I've been working on the infrastructure, so I dug a few trenches around the vegetable beds to store water for easy access. I'm going to dig more ponds and channels from one to the other to have mini reservoirs dotted all around, so I can easily water. I will also keep expanding the sprinkler system, but I'm not sure it will give enough coverage and volume in the heat of summer, hence the reservoirs as backup.

The vegetable beds are being bordered with sticks to give it more visual structure, which will help me define the areas and start to work on the aesthetic. I know it all looks like ugly right now, but the vision is for it to look pretty.

The trees are flowering, which is a great sign. The garlic is growing. And the bulbs I planted are coming out. Very exciting times.

I have confirmed that I have a resident pheasant on the field. He's always wandering around the same area, and doesn't seem to be bothered by me; he's there every time I go. I've also seen the same grass snake twice in the past year. And there is always a group of hunting birds flying around, I'm guessing the same group as well. I could make a peter rabbit style children's story about all the residents. There's definitely enough rabbits causing mischief... Title options include:

- The Tales of Faber Forest
- Faber Forest Friends
- Adventures in Faber Forest

Hi there I'm Charlotte from London and I am a Millennial hobbiest. By that I mean I love making things, for both the process and the outcomes. On this blog I talk about all the things I'm working on and learning each week. On some projects I will go into a bit more detail on what I did and my experience through it.

Some facts about me:

- I am not a perfectionist, preferring to complete something than to attempt to make something flawless.

- I am in a constant cycle of building up inspiration, executing the ideas, then winding down to reflect and regenerate.

- I am interested in almost anything that can be made from scratch using nature / natural materials.

Thanks for stopping by!
