Project - Crochet Friends

This project was inspiring by my aunt, who is an awesome crocheter of amugurumi things. Over Christmas she showed me this book series on crochet animals which I loved. I think she made every animals in the three book series and they're all in her drawer. So obviously I had to make it too.

I have the books online and was thinking about where to buy the yarn. I ended up buying cotton yarn while in Mexico on a trip. I found this crochet shop in the city and immediately connected the dots that this was the yarn I wanted. I bought one 100g ball in every colour, about 8 different colours in total and got to work.

The first two animals I made was this french dog and hedgehog. Each animal in the book comes with a cute little background story, and in my mind these two are best buddies. I love the detail in the patterns and the unique design of each one, like the hair on the hedgehog is so great. And most of the fiddly accessory pieces are fasting on so they don't always fall off.

After the first two, I made the chicken then the frog, then the wolf. I was trying to stay within the theme of local animals (to UK or Europe). But I started running out of colour options and I was determined so finish all my yarn, without buying more, so had to get creative with some colour choices and animals options.

The 3 books have around 30-40 animals to choose from, so lots of choice! I really like the orstrich and the seagull and the frog. But honestly they're great. This was such a joyous fun project and worked up pretty quickly. I used mostly wool from the Belgian sheep as stuffing.

The yarn is now pretty much finished, but I may come back to this at some point to make a few more from the book.

Hi there I'm Charlotte from London and I am a Millennial hobbiest. By that I mean I love making things, for both the process and the outcomes. On this blog I talk about all the things I'm working on and learning each week. On some projects I will go into a bit more detail on what I did and my experience through it.

Some facts about me:

- I am not a perfectionist, preferring to complete something than to attempt to make something flawless.

- I am in a constant cycle of building up inspiration, executing the ideas, then winding down to reflect and regenerate.

- I am interested in almost anything that can be made from scratch using nature / natural materials.
